I just hooked up a Kenwood DNX6160. Everything is working as it should. The problem is that I spliced the Parking Switch wire for the DVD player into the Ground for the system so that I could make it play even if I was driving and it didn't seem to work. The DVD player works, you can hear the audio, and it says "Parking Brake Not Set" or something like that on the screen. Since that particular unit is a new model for this year there isn't really any info on it on line, but I did find some info on doing this on last years DNX6140 model, and on those the way I have it spliced is how a lot of people said to do it. I called a guy I know that owns a audio shop and he told me to hook it up this same way as well.

What do you think my problem is? Is it possible that my splice connector just didn't make a good connection with the systems Ground wire?

get a switch. hook the parking switch wire to the positive and ground the negative. if u leave it in the on position, every time u turn on the vehicle and want to watch a dvd, just flip the switch off and on again. problem should be fixed

I've got one, but I wasn't exactly sure how to wire to it if I used it, and after that dude I talked to told me just to splice into the ground wire, I didn't think I needed the switch.

So when I hook this up, I'm just going to be hooking the wire coming out of the stereo to the positive and the negative to a ground? I'm asking to make sure I don't have to run the wire all the way to the parking break switch, because I have no idea where that is or what to hook it to.

I AM A ILLITERATE ****ING DUMBASS THAT CAN'T FOLLOW SIMPLY DRAWN WIRING DIAGRAMS OR SIMPLY WRITTEN DIRECTIONS!

Okay, so with this head unit, you don't need a switch...splicing the Parking Brake Switch wire into the Ground wire works just fine.......

.......if you splice the correct wire into the Ground wire.

Hi all, I just got the same Kenwood DNX6160. Can you explain how exactly to do this ---> I'm just going to be hooking the wire coming out of the stereo to the positive and the negative to a ground?
I do not quite understand the "to the positive and the negative to a ground"
Thanks for the help!

Don't even worry about the switch on that radio. After you get the main wiring for the radio plugged in, get yourself a splice connector, and splice the radio's ground wire to the parking brake switch wire.

Thank you for the reply. Still need your help -1st time I am going this :-)
So you mean
1. just leave the light green wire that I suppose to connect to parking brake switch wire (PRK SW)
2. Instead, I would connect radio's (Kenwood DNX6160 unit) ground wire (black color) to PRK SW

And that will make my DVD to play at all time?

Wait a sec....
Did you mean to connect that light green wire to black ground wire (which also gets connected to ground wire from the car) that are both from the radio itself?
And I do not need to bother with any wiring from the vehicle?
I am now totally confused!

Light green wire from the radio (A)
Black ground wire from the radio (B)
Vehicle's parking brake detection switch wire (C)

SO what the Kenwood manual requires is to connect A to C
But in order to bypass, do I connect
1. A to B and leave C alone?
2. B to C and leave A alone?
So the question is connect A to

Cut down the PRK SW wire to a more manageable length. Then with a splice connector, connect it to the black ground wire coming out of the stereo. You won't need to bother with the actual parking break switch or a toggle switch for the radio.
