I have a tire that had a slow leak for a couple of weeks so I finally took the wheel off to see if it had a nail in it or something. I saw a small piece of metal in the thread so I took it to a tire dealer and asked them to patch it for me. They took the tire off the wheel and then came back and told me that they couldn't patch it because the inside tire liner was split. They told me I had to get a new tire. I look closer at the piece of metal that was in the tread and it didn't even go all the way through, so the air must have been leaking out of the split. Has anyone had this happen before or know what would have caused it?

I've never heard of that so I'd be interested to hear what anyone else has to say about it as well.

Never heard of a inside tireliner. Maybe someone used some product like this to seal them up before.

Real strange. I'd say it'd be a manufactures defect. Most tires are 5yrs or the mileage, which ever comes first.

I just went and bought a new tire to replace it. Basically the shop I bought a new tire at said that stresses from using the tire just split the rubber, it is an older tire. By tire liner I mean just the inside layer of rubber under the steel belts.

goin broke but N style

i have neer seen the inside just split unless the tire was run low on air pressure. but then its usually in the sidewall that has the issue not where the tread is.
