I just picked up my newest project, which is an LQ4 from a denali...

So far my plans are to;

-Hot tank/vat to clean the engine up and then check for cracks
-Bore it .030
-New Cam, main, rod bearings
-243 (Or similar) heads
-Texas Speed Cam (haven't chosen yet, until I determine heads)
-FAST intake or Similar

But first things first, and that's to round up parts/part numbers/opinions and what not. I'm shooting for 500+ N/A. Where's the best place online to be looking for my rebuild kits? I've flipped through Summit briefly, but Haven't gone much farther than that. I'm new to the whole LSx motor building though, but not to the GenI SBC/BBC building. Any help and/or pointers, part numbers/combo ideas is/are appreciated.

naparts.com (northern auto parts). It's where I get my rebuild kits.

That's for old timer stuff. They're mostly Gen I&II stuff.

Yeah I noticed that after I posted. I did see they had some 6.0L stuff but for up to '03. I think summit will probably be best. Maybe jegs.

Man theres so many parts suppliers for the LSx engines it made my head spin. Off the top of my head a couple names that I've seen over and over are Scoggin Dickey (something like that) and Texas Speed Performance. It kinda seems like everyone uses a mix and match set of parts from a bunch of companies when it comes to building these engines.

I take it that Fast intake on your parts list means you're building for fuel injection.

Fuel injection it is. I thought of going the way of the Carb, but my buddies 406 LS3, with 12:1 CR and like 600HP & 28mpg made me change my mind. haha.

And yes, you're correct on the parts being all over Texas Speed and SD have been helpful but their sites SUCK in my opinion. It also doesn't help that I'm kind of running a mish-mash of things to get this motor where I want it to be.

While fumbling around, I found this

TSP 408 C.I.D. Rotating Assembly

Which I may have just decided to run, and rather than 243's, I'm going to look into L92's with an LS3 manifold, with that setup.

Well, don't hold off on selling it to someone else, but yes, I do want it, I've just got to wait until our wedding is done, and out of the way before I jump into this thing.

I may now just do an L92 head, with LS3 manifold, .030 over pistons, and stock rods and crank, with a Texas Speed, or Pat G cam for the time being, then if i want more, I'll buy a stroker kit later on.

I know Moon509 is happy with that same setup, or very similar.

lol - Not "yet". Wife and I just started looking for Bottom end kits. I'm going to have her do most of the work, but We're getting the garage insulated first, so this project is taking a little time.

Not detracting from your thread, can't wait to see how things turn out and see what kind of budget can be done.

No donor vehicle yet. We'd really like a nova, but we've also been entertaining the Idea of a patina shop truck too.

it would either be a 64-65 Shortbed or a 73-87 style, also SWB.

Senior Whore

I like the sound of both of those, 67-72 trucks are nice but just a bit too expensive, 73-87 trucks are common and cheap and would be fun with 400+ LS based HP. Its hard to go wrong with what you chose to put it in, what about a Fox body?

Meh, turbo LSx Foxes are a dime a dozen lately here in MN. I personally only like Notchback fox bodies. I like the SN95's more than the Fox's
