Hello, first time here and seem like a lot of knowledgeable people so here's my question. Have a 03 chev Silverado 4x4z71, now my problem is when I start off it will not shift into 2nd from 1st unless I let off of the gas. But at times it will at bout 3000 rpm, after its shifted into second the rest of the gears shift fine or seem to. Now if I'm driving at 60 mile per hour or so and floor it the tach winds out to 6000 and trans does not shift down unless I go halfway down it'll kick down. I notice it's also kinda surging or whatever I'm no mechanic and am trying to explain as best as i can lol, so if this makes sense to anybody meaning my mumbling any help or advice would be gratefully appreciate, the truck has 123 km and has never been abused or used for heavy pulling and i have it booked in for filter and oil change.
Again thanks so much.

Warm it up to normal operating temperature then check the transmission fluid level with the engine running. It should have a mark on the dip stick that shows you where the fluid level should be when its warmed up.

Yes I checked it and it was maybe half litre low so i topped it off. The truck has been running rough when cold for quite some time before tranny acted up. When cold it almost acted like a carb on the old trucks like if i stepped on it it would sputter backfire type of thing, I just changed maf sensor but hasn't made any difference.

Do you have any lights on in the dash? Check engine or anything?

Well that means there is a code stored, get the codes pulled and let us know what comes up. That will help us provide some assistance. Just because the light is off doesn't mean that nothing is wrong, especially since the light has been on in the past.

As soon as it is scanned at the trans shop i will let you guys
know what they came up with. Told him i was gonna change oil
and filter but he told me not to cuz if they find something
they'd have to pull pan off and he said he doesn't think
it's the filter

Hi Oilerman,
I was wondering if you had your truck looked at yet? I'm having the exact same issue with my 03 Yukon. I recently replaced the 1-2 accumulator and forward accumulator pistons with upgraded pinless units as well as replacing the 2-4 servo with the popular 'Corvette' upgraded piece. Also replaced the A and B shift solenoids. The filter and fluid was changed as a side effect of the other work performed, none of which had actually solved the problem. Any diagnostic info you've received could really help me out! Thanks

That or the vehicle speed sensor in the tail shaft housing were going to be my next two attempts. A lot of people in other forums have posted info that indicates the TPS may cause this type of issue, but it doesn't make sense to me why it would primarily affect the 1-2 shift and not cause the truck to run strangely in other noticeable ways. I downloaded the 4L60E service manual last night, hoping a thorough read may shed some light on the situation. Thanks for the quick response and good luck. I'll share any further knowledge I gain should that happen.
