I have a '98 k1500 with a 5.0 liter engine and an auto trans. My catalytic converter needs replacement and I'm trying to decide whether to do it myself or have it done at a shop. I can get the one piece Y-pipe/converter for a very reasonable price, but I don't know if there's enough room to just drop the pipe/converter without removing the trans. crossmember. If I have to remove it, then I'll have to have a shop do the job. Has anyone here ever taken the Ypipe/converter off? Does that trans. crossmember need to be removed, or is there enough room to wiggle the pipe/converter out and put the new one in? Thanks in advance for the help!

Should not have to pull any cross member off to pull the exhaust. Can be moved around as long as you can get the truck up enough to play with it. And welcome to emissions crap on vehicles.

Also welcome to the Forum.
